“Port St. Joe is great—but the world doesn’t know about it yet! Things are about to change!”
Those were the words of my dear friend and best realtor ever, Christie Perkins (saved in my phone exactly like that). And she’s right—things are changing. Port St. Joe is quietly being discovered. Growth is visible everywhere, yet somehow, this little Gulf Coast gem still feels like stepping back in time.
When you see an article in Southern Living and an episode on HGTV, you know something special is happening.
But I’ll be honest—I didn’t always know about Port St. Joe. I’ve heard about it countless times. Life was busy—raising kids, building a career, running on deadlines. I didn’t have time to drive and discover. Until one day, Chuck and I did, and life hasn’t been the same since.
Port St. Joe is where the world slows down. It’s where you breathe deeper, laugh longer, and remember what really matters. But don’t mistake slow for sleepy—this is also a place for adventure, discovery, and pure coastal joy.
So, let’s explore some of my favorite ways to fall in love with Port St. Joe. 🌴
1. Fish at the Seawall at SSGT Clifford C. Sims Memorial Park
Start your morning with a coffee in hand, casting a line from the seawall. Watch the boats drift toward open water and let the calm of the bay set the tone for your day.
2. Treat Yourself at Bayside Bakery
Grab a seat outside, breathe in that salty air, and enjoy anything homemade—from flaky pastries to their irresistible sandwiches. It’s comfort baked with love.
3. Shop Local
Stop into Going Coastal, Timber Tides Outfitter, and The Fuss Boutique—a few of my daughters’ favorite stops. Each shop has its own local flair and personality. Don’t rush… this is Port St. Joe shopping—slow, friendly, and full of charm.
4. Afternoon & Music at Krazyfish Grille
This is one of my happy places. Sit at the bar, order something fresh from the sea, chat with Troy (the friendliest bartender you’ll ever meet), and take in the quotes that cover the walls. Add a little live music, and you’ve got the recipe for a perfect coastal night.
5. Stroll the SaltAir Farmers Market
Held the first and third Saturdays of each month (February through December), it’s full of local flavor, art, and stories. You’ll find everything from handmade goods to fresh meat—and plenty of small-town smiles.
6. Beach Time—Always
I still pinch myself every time I make the three-minute walk from my front door to the sand. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine owning a beach house so close to the Gulf. Now, I get to share that dream with others.
7. Tee Off at St. Joseph Bay Golf Club
Affordable prices, forgivable greens, and green all around—it’s a local favorite for good reason.
8. Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner at Shipwreck Raw Bar
No matter the time of day, the food (and the people) are always good here. Their oysters alone are worth the trip, according to Chuck.
9. Bike to Forgotten Coast Brewing Co.
From our home, hop on your bike and follow the path toward the beach. Ride a short stretch on the grass, hop on the sidewalk, and enjoy the scenic four-mile ride each way. It’s the perfect excuse for a cold beer and great food.
Don’t forget to stop for a photo at the iconic Mexico Beach Chair—and remember, once you cross that line, you’re officially in Central Time!
10. End Your Day with a Sunset Ride
Take the golf cart along Old 98, watch the sky light up in pinks and golds, and stop by The Mill Mercantile & Social for live music. There’s no better way to wrap up a day in paradise.
Whether you’re here for two nights or two weeks, Port St. Joe has a way of soothing your soul. It’s a place where sunsets feel sacred, strangers wave as you drive by, and life feels simple again.
So, what are you waiting for?
Come discover the magic.
Come fall in love with Port St. Joe. 💛
